-Daily global petroleum use: 80 million barrels (or 3,360,000,000
gallons)
-Daily U.S. petroleum consumption: 25% of oil extracted globally or 20
million barrels (840,000,000 gallons).
-Daily U.S. gasoline consumption (ca. 45% of crude oil becomes
gasoline): 378,000,000 gallons
-Hourly gasoline consumption: 15,750,000 gallons
-Gasoline used per minute: 262,500 gallons (or 4,375 gallons per second)
-Volume of oil used in the U.S. per day: 121 million cubic feet
(enough oil to cover the University of Nebraska football field with a
column of oil 2500 feet tall)
-25% of all oil consumed by humans has been in the last 10 years
-Toxins produced by global consumption of oil: 28,022,400,000 pounds/

-Emission of carbon dioxide by automobiles in the U.S.: more than all
the cars in Europe, China, and India…combined!
-Time required before the effect of fossil fuel use is observed on the
world’s forests, reefs, plants, and animals: now!
